Land Mines, Cluster Bombs and the Clintons

The Clintons favor land mines and cluster bombs. Over 150 nations have signed
the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. That year President Bill Clinton refused to sign that treaty. After his election, President George W. Bush declared that the United Stateswould never sign.

In 2006 Senate Amendment No. 4882 would have banned the use of cluster bombs
in civilian areas. Senator Barack Obama of Illinois voted in favor of the ban.
Senator Hillary Clinton of New York voted against the ban.
Congress rejected the amendment.

Senator Obama must win the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States
in order to prevent the use of land mines and cluster bombs in civilian areas,
and he must be elected president in order to end the war in Iraq.
Senator John McCain will continue the war if he becomes president of the United States.
Our next president has to be Barack Obama!

Cluster bombs and landmines are particularly terrifying weapons that wreak havoc
on communities trying to recover from war. They are fatal impediments
to reconstruction and rehabilitation of agricultural land;
they destroy valuable livestock;
they disable otherwise productive members of society;
they maim or kill children trying to salvage them for scrap metal.

Bill on the Danish cartoons:

“I strongly disagree with the creation and publication of cartoons
that are considered blasphemous by the Muslims around the world.” (1)

Here’s Heinz Fischer of Austria,
a president who agrees with our ex-president:

“If a ban on pictorial representation constitutes
an essential element of a religion,
one ought not and must not offend against this principle twice -
not only by disrespecting this ban,
but also by reinforcing this hurtful violation of a taboo
in the form of a caricature.” (2)

While united concerning cartoons,
the two rival religious sects
were blowing up each other’s mosques.

Maybe, cartoonists ought to lay off right now,
But is this taboo permanent?
And if so, what’s next on the verboten agenda?

The idea that mass murderers will be served
virgins en masse in Kingdom Come
is more obscene than any cartoon could ever be.

And by the way, are the protestors protesting
about mass murder and the execution of hostages
or about children being taught to kill children?

Hillary, like Bill, represents the machine.
If she gets the next nomination,
old dogs like me may vote for her,
since no one can be as bad as what we have.

Conservative William Rusher makes comparisons:
“Hillary Clinton probably has the highest negative ratings
of any national politician (with the possible exception of George W. Bush).
Polls indicate that something approaching
an absolute majority of the American people
would ‘never’ vote for her for president.” (3)

Hillary is the candidate
That the Rovians would most like to take on,
and they’d have a field day on her.

Rove has become the lifeblood
of the Bush Crowd.
Even if though he has been
knocked out politically,
the Reps will use him and his toadies
to dig up dirt and to create dirt
behind the scenes.

Bush fell into bin Laden’s trap,
and he keeps falling deeper and deeper.
Let’s not fall into any trap laid by Bush
or by Cheney (if his ticker is still ticking)
or by the master dirt-digger, Rove!

We need a fresh face like Obama.

The Right Wing is slick.
Sometimes it even helps choose a candidate.
Here’s a dirty trick of yesteryear, perpetrated by a Rove antecedent:
“During the 1972 U.S. presidential election, Donald H. Segretti,
a political operative for President Nixon’s reelection campaign,
released a faked letter, on Senator Edmund Muskie’s letterhead,
falsely alleging that Senator Henry “Scoop” Jackson,
against whom Muskie was running for the Democratic Party’s nomination,
had had an illegitimate child with a 17-year-old.
Muskie, who had been considered the frontrunner,
lost the nomination to George McGovern, and Nixon was reelected.
The letter was part of a campaign of so-called “dirty tricks”,
directed by Segretti, and uncovered as part of the Watergate Scandal.
Segretti, went to prison in 1974,
after pleading guilty to three misdemeanor counts
of distributing illegal campaign literature.” (4)

And a dirty trick of yesterday, as related by Eleanor Clift:
“All it takes is a wink and a nod from the White House,
and this network springs into action:
After getting beat in New Hampshire by McCain,
Bush’s first event was at Bob Jones University in South Carolina.
Standing next to Bush on the stage was a veteran who went right at McCain,
questioning his Vietnam service while Bush remained silent.
A whisper campaign told voters that McCain had a black child.
(The McCains have an adopted daughter from Bangladesh.)”
McCain lost the primary; the veteran became a Bush administration appointee.” (5)

But McCain can be cruel too. Here he is in 1998:
“Question: Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Answer: Because her father is Janet Reno!” (6)
