Yes, German blood was not spilled during the “rape of Austria.” While the rape was taking place, Austrian gentiles became Germans, and since Schuschnigg included Austrian blood in German blood, I will adhere to his classification and exclusively refer to “German blood.” here.

After the rape, anti-Nazi and Jewish blood was spilled in the annexed area, and kept being spilled. Then Czech blood, and then Polish blood, and then Dutch, Belgian, French and English blood, along with some German blood. Then Greek blood and Yugoslav blood, and so on. Then Russian blood - and finally much German blood.

Schuschnigg, may have intended to keep German blood from being spilled, but unfortunately he failed. And he also failed to keep “foreign” blood from being spilled.

(It should be inserted that after the suppression of the Austrian Socialists in 1934, Schuschnigg signed he so-called “German Peace” with Nazi Germany in 1936 called the “German Peace” and part of the accord was the firing Field Marshall Alfred Jansa, who had a defense plan for Austria.)

In 1974, Schuschnigg declared that under the same conditions, he would take the same course of action again. (1)

That same year at a round table discussion, Schuschnigg stated that had Austria fought, he and his colleagues might not have survived to tell the story. (It was nice to hear the story at the time, but it might have been even nicer if there had been another story to tell.) (2)

The blood that had not been shed fighting the Reich was shed fighting for the Reich many times over. And then there is the bottomless pool of blood shed by the Reich.

The total death toll is staggering - 55,000,000 lives.
