Why is David Mamet embracing the Reactionary Right? It’s simple. The RR didn’t like Jews much in the old days. But now the RR is supporting Israel against the Palestinians with no holds barred.

The “Democracy Now” crowd, like Vanessa Redgrave and her ilk, have two bogeymen, the United States and Israel. Now I’m not saying that all is well in those two nations. Hell no! There is a long register of sins, but they don’t happen to be the consistently most rotten villains on the planet. This too is the no-holds-barred syndrome.

The Liberal faction more or less tries for an even-handed approach. It is possible to be critical of the settlement policy without praying for a Sodom-and-Gomorra solution for Israel.

Mamet, like the late Ron Silver has made a complete about face. The reason is simple. Now the Right is gung-ho for Israel. No shilly-shallying. The Right does not fathom shading of any kind. Who needs shadings when the Deity is on your side?

Here is a segment of the Partitur of “The Orgies Mystery Theater”: “A 7-year old boy is nailed to the wall as if crucified. His head is beaten and shattered with rectangular stones, his bloody brains come out. The bloody brain is rinsed and washed with lukewarm sugar-water.”

Hier ein Zitat aus der Nitsch Partitur: „Ein 7-jähriger Knabe wird wie gekreuzigt an die Wand genagelt. Sein Kopf wird mit quadratischen Steinen zerschlagen und zerschmettert, blutiges Gehirn tritt aus. Das blutige Hirn wird mit lauem Zuckerwasser gewaschen und gespült.”

Hier „Körperlichkeit”: „die nackte leiche eines neunjährigen mädchens wird auf eine kirchenbank gelegt; das geschlechtsteil des mädchens wird aufgeklafft; mit einer silbersonde wird mehrmals tief hineingestochen; das geschlechtsteil wird mit einem skalpell zerfleischt; zuckerwasser wird auf die blutige wunde geschüttet; nummer O saugt und schleckt das gezuckerte blut von dem zerfleischten geschlechtsteil.”

Nitsch: „Ich will meiner Arbeit kein humanes Korsette mehr anlegen.”

• The Most Beautiful Mass-Murderer

Our Twentieth Century mass murderers were the most effective in the history of mankind. They had no compunctions about erasing humans from our planet. Our contemporary variety has no fear of being called to account on Judgment Day. According to them, God’s bidding is to engage the bloodletting.

The ugliest villain of all time was, of course, Adolf Hitler. Short, stocky and round-shouldered, his hair neatly plastered down, the unruly cowlick coming loose at his bellicose gestures and strands of hair poking up on the back of his head. Adolf , bursting with hoarse hatred, certainly takes the cake. He was the one who, among other things, specifically targeted children.

Another plug-ugly was Mussolini. He may have been somewhat less of a villain, but after the tide turned and Adolf took over in Italy. his villainy matched that of his friend.

I’ve quipped “they don’t bother me if they don’t bother me” and “chacun à son trou.” I’ve always been a wise guy who couldn’t resist a pun.

When Charles Trenet died, I bawled. He was a marvelous songwriter-composer-singer poet and the last of the great artists who represented the Thirties. What would my life have been like without Charles Trenet or Noel Coward, and all the other writers, artists and musicians who enriched it? Their inclinations were their inclinations and their business was their business. Every man and woman has a right to choose his or her life style. I use the word “choose” but I don’t know if it’s always a matter of choice. Whatever the case, I say “live and let live!” It’s nobody’s business, and it’s not the business of the state. It is the business of the state to protect the rights of the individual. And to provide equal rights and opportunities for all.

George W. Bush and Co. led a crusade against homosexuality, and they clobbered gays, no matter what. Even if it meant that more America soldiers in Iraq had die.
